CFD & Evacuation Modelling
DS Fire provides advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and evacuation modelling services to support performance-based fire engineering and complex fire safety assessments. These tools are used to analyse fire development, smoke movement, tenability conditions, and occupant behaviour under realistic fire scenarios.
CFD modelling is applied to assess smoke control systems, atria, large or open-plan spaces, basements, tunnels, and other geometrically or operationally complex environments. Evacuation modelling is used to evaluate occupant movement, escape times, and interactions with building layouts and management procedures, including phased and progressive evacuation strategies.
Video outputs from CFD and evacuation models provide a clear, visual representation of fire and evacuation performance, supporting design optimisation, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory approvals. All modelling work is undertaken in accordance with recognised fire engineering methodologies, including BS 7974 and relevant Published Documents, with assumptions and limitations clearly defined.
Our modelling studies are proportionate, transparent, and integrated into the wider fire strategy, providing robust technical justification where departures from prescriptive guidance are required.
